Survey Division consists of 3 (three) sections viz. Soil and Land Classification Survey Section, Soil Survey Interpretation Section and Soil Correlation Section headed by Principal Scientific Officer (PSO) at head quarter.
Functions:
Planning, co-ordination and supervision of all technical
programmes and activities of the component sections.
Review and/or editing of all technical reports prepared
by the component sections. Co-ordination with allied
Government, Autonomous/other agencies in national
programmes on soil and land resource evaluation and
land utilization planning. Correlation of soils and
soil and land classification surveys at national level.
Responsible for overall technical porgress of the
Division. . Field investigation of soil problems.
Assistance to the Director in general and technical
administration of the Division.
Soil Survey Interpretation Section:
Planning, supervision and execution of soil survey
data interpretation activities for various beneficiary
agencies for agricultural development. Provision of
basic data on soils, land capability and crop suitability
for preparation of short and long-term agricultural
development plans/projects. Interpretation of soil
data for locating ar4eas suitable for extension and
introduction of various crops like cereals. oil-seeds,
vegetables, orchard crops, cotton, rubber, tea coffee,
etc, including high yielding varieties, for the benefit
of concentration of processing plants, storage facilities,
etc. Planning for processing of soil survey dta for
developing computerized data bank on soil information.
Making acquaintance of the available data information
on soils for agricultural development to the students
of educational institutions including universities
and colleges.
